Fronting up every day is probably the most powerful ingredient of change.
Yesterday I talked about what constituted mental toughness and came up with having control and having options. To that I would add daily practice.
So to be perfectly clear, Mental Toughness has 3 components
- Mental control (of management of our path, stress, feelings, story, relationships and actions)
- Options in all those domains
- Do it every day.
If we can commit each day to making one thing better, but doing that every day, then we have the beginnings of a powerful new story.
The commitment has to be to one thing, not 100 things -but it has to be...
EVERY DAY.
Small, doable and unambitious but, nevertheless, a commitment to making things better. When we think of a day, we think of 24 hours. But realistically 8 of those are asleep, which leaves 16.
Then there are the hours where we are doing stuff or distracted so lets take of another 4.
Right, we only have to put together 12 decent hours. And within that time we have to make it better one way?!
May as well get bang for our buck.
This is where the planning comes in. Do it with something that's important to you, that you'll be pleased with if you see progress. Do it with something that matters to you.
By the way, what does matter to you?
Here we're going to have a myriad of answers. But keep it firmly ensconced in daily life, start with today.
Mmmmh, what does matter to me...today...?
Pause... I could say so many things?!
OK you said small and unambitious? Well at the moment I care about getting a blog done each day and not falling behind. Why? Well it's helping clarify my thoughts as I try and make the complex easy.
So I showed up.
Tomorrow I hope to do the same.
Maybe I'll even take to chose what that thing is that I do better so it's precious and something I'm pleased and encouraged by.
CU tomorrow and have a Betta Day
